Inspired by the royal court of the Joseon dynasty, Sejong sits on a golden throne in a red royal robe beneath the gold letters 세종대왕 / SEJONG THE GREAT, before the Sun, Moon and Five Peaks screen, framed by a carved palace canopy. The front carries the small Seoul Collective logo.

The Story

The Joseon dynasty ruled Korea for more than 500 years, from 1392 to 1910. Its most celebrated king, Sejong the Great (reigned 1418–1450), created Hangul, Korea's own alphabet, in 1443 and proclaimed it to the people in 1446 so that ordinary people could easily read and write. This design shows Sejong seated on his golden throne in a red royal robe, beneath the gold letters 세종대왕 ("Sejong the Great"). Behind him stands the Irworobongdo, the Sun, Moon and Five Peaks screen that was placed behind the Joseon king's throne. It honors a ruler whose gift still lives in every Korean word.
